A special CBI court in Bhopal withdrew from overseeing the regular bail plea of district judge Giribala Singh, an accused in the Twisha Sharma dowry death case, due to a potential conflict of interest. The case was transferred to the Special Judge (Lokayukta) for further proceedings.
During the hearing, it was revealed that the presiding judge had received judicial training from the accused judge in the past, prompting her recusal to maintain impartiality. The court is set to deliver its decision on the bail application on Saturday after hearing arguments from the CBI, the defense, and the victim’s family.
The defense argued for Singh’s bail on grounds of health issues and caregiving responsibilities towards her elderly mother. However, the CBI opposed the plea, citing the severity of the allegations and concerns about potential witness tampering if the accused is released on bail.
Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old woman, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Bhopal, leading to a CBI investigation. Allegations of dowry harassment and cruelty have been made against her husband, advocate Samarth Singh, and his mother, Giribala Singh, a retired district judge.
