A Special NDPS Court in Madhya Pradesh has handed down a 15-year prison term to two drug traffickers, along with a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh each. The convicted individuals, Zakir and Liyakat Ali, were found guilty under various sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, for their involvement in drug trafficking from Sonepur in Odisha to Bhopal.
Zakir and Liyakat Ali were apprehended on December 29, 2022, while transporting 109.150 kg of ganja in a car. The ganja, sourced from Sonepur, Odisha, was destined for Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The NCB’s Indore Zone intercepted their vehicle at Khiriya Toll Plaza on Jabalpur-Bhopal Highway and seized the contraband.
In a separate case, another inter-state drug trafficker, Vivek Kumar Singh, was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000 by a Special NDPS Court in Madhya Pradesh. Singh, a resident of Pune, was found guilty of carrying 675 grams of charas during his arrest on March 31, 2024. He was convicted under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985.
