Actors Srabanti Chatterjee and Prosenjit Chatterjee participated in the West Bengal Assembly elections’ second phase and urged citizens to engage in the democratic process. Srabanti Chatterjee expressed her satisfaction after voting, emphasizing the importance of public participation in decision-making. Prosenjit Chatterjee praised the smooth and peaceful voting process, especially highlighting his son’s first voting experience.
The voting turnout in the initial six hours of the second phase stood at 61.11%, slightly lower than the previous phase’s 62.18%. District-wise, East Burdwan recorded the highest turnout at 66.80%, followed by Hooghly at 64.57% and Nadia at 61.41%. Other districts like Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, and both electoral districts of Kolkata also saw significant voter participation.
Despite some reports of election-related disturbances, including threats by certain political groups in South 24 Parganas, the situation remained under control with no major incidents reported. Central forces, along with general and police observers, ensured a vigilant monitoring process. The Election Commission of India has initiated an investigation into an incident where an EVM button was found covered with tape at a booth in Falta.
