Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has named former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten as the new head coach of the national men’s team, starting April 15. Kirsten, known for coaching India and South Africa previously, will lead the team as part of SLC’s efforts to enhance the National High Performance Center. He has a successful coaching record, having guided India to a World Cup victory in 2011 and South Africa to the top ranking in 2013.
Kirsten, who recently worked with Cricket Namibia during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, boasts an impressive playing career with over 14,000 runs in Test and ODI formats. His new role with Sri Lanka Cricket is a two-year appointment until April 14, 2028. One of his key tasks will be preparing the Sri Lanka National Men’s Team for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
