Filmmaker Steven Spielberg, known for iconic movies like ‘Jaws’ and ‘Jurassic Park’, has revealed his interest in directing a horror film. Despite his successful ventures in various genres, Spielberg expressed a wish to delve into the realm of pure horror, a genre he has yet to explore fully. In an interview with ‘Empire’ magazine, he mentioned his aspiration, stating, “I haven’t directed a horror film yet, and I’ve always wanted to, and someday I may.”
Spielberg, reflecting on his hesitation, admitted to occasionally doubting his ability to craft a story that truly terrifies audiences. He cited Zach Cregger’s film ‘Weapons’ as an example of a recent horror movie that impressed him. While acknowledging the excellence of such films, Spielberg explained that encountering satisfying horror movies like ‘Weapons’ sometimes quells his own urge to create a deeply chilling cinematic experience.
Although Spielberg co-wrote and produced the supernatural horror film ‘Poltergeist’, he entrusted the directorial duties to Tobe Hooper. Notably, Spielberg praised Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ adaptations, labeling them as some of his favorite science-fiction works. Expressing anticipation for the upcoming installment, ‘Dune: Part Three’, Spielberg commended Villeneuve’s interpretation of Frank Herbert’s novel and eagerly awaits its release later this year.
