Students at Nakkatigach Higher Secondary School in West Bengal had a narrow escape from a potential disaster on the first day of their secondary examinations. A gas cylinder caught fire in the school canteen, sparking panic among the 202 students taking the exam. Quick action by police officers averted casualties or injuries, with the cylinder eventually exploding harmlessly in an open field.
Prompt response from the police and administration ensured the safety of the students as they completed their exams without further incident. The incident, which occurred during tea preparation, led to widespread panic but was swiftly contained by the authorities. Parents and school officials expressed relief that a major catastrophe was avoided due to the decisive actions taken.
Tufanganj Sub-Divisional Officer Kingshuk Maity and other police officials arrived promptly at the scene to reassure the students. The school’s acting headmaster credited the police for preventing a disaster, highlighting the importance of their quick intervention. The situation returned to normalcy after the students were calmed down, allowing the exams to proceed smoothly.
