The Supreme Court granted permission to Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez to withdraw her special leave petition challenging a Delhi High Court decision in a money laundering case linked to Sukesh Chandrashekhar. Jacqueline sought to withdraw her plea during the hearing, which the court approved. The case involved charges framed against her under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The matter was initially listed before a different Bench but was later heard by Justices B.V. Nagarathna and Joymalya Bagchi. Jacqueline had contested the Delhi High Court’s refusal to quash the Enforcement Directorate’s prosecution complaint and the trial court’s decision on charges. She had previously pleaded not guilty in the case and expressed readiness to face trial. The trial court had also framed charges against Chandrashekhar, his wife, and others, who all pleaded not guilty.
The Enforcement Directorate alleged that Jacqueline received luxury gifts worth approximately Rs 7 crore from Chandrashekhar, who is accused of cheating the wives of former Ranbaxy promoters. The agency claimed that Chandrashekhar provided these gifts using proceeds from alleged money laundering activities. The case is scheduled for further proceedings on July 16, with Jacqueline having withdrawn her application to become an approver.
