The Supreme Court has granted bail to Pawan Kumar Bishnoi and Jagtar Singh, who are accused in the 2022 murder case of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. Pawan Bishnoi is said to have provided logistical support for the murder by arranging the vehicle used in the crime. His counsel argued that he has been in custody for almost four years and that the trial is expected to be prolonged.
On the other hand, the Punjab Police opposed the bail plea, stating that Bishnoi had received multiple calls from co-accused individuals regarding the vehicle used in the murder. Additionally, the Court also granted bail to Jagtar Singh, who allegedly assisted in surveying Moose Wala’s residence. Singh’s counsel clarified that the installed cameras were for security purposes and not for surveillance related to the crime.
Previously, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had denied the bail pleas, emphasizing the gravity of the allegations over the delay in trial proceedings. The High Court suggested waiting for eyewitness statements before considering regular bail to ensure a safe environment for their deposition.
Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was fatally shot on May 29, 2022, in Punjab’s Mansa district, leading to a nationwide uproar and a thorough investigation into organized criminal involvement. The Punjab Police have implicated Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi, currently incarcerated in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, in Moose Wala’s murder. The police chargesheet also includes other individuals allegedly linked to the crime.
