The Supreme Court has directed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) supervised by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary to investigate the suspected fraudulent sale and transfer of properties owned by the Spiritual Regeneration Movement Foundation of India. This society was established under the guidance of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The Court set aside an interim order of the Allahabad High Court that had halted the filing of a police report related to FIR No. 642 of 2025 at Noida Sector 39 police station.
The apex court instructed the Investigating Officer to conclude the investigation and submit the police report as per the law. It criticized the Allahabad High Court for preventing the filing of the charge sheet while considering a petition against the FIR. The Court emphasized that while it can delay coercive actions during pending matters, blocking the charge sheet filing was unjust.
Expressing concern, the Supreme Court noted that despite ongoing civil and criminal proceedings in various states regarding the society’s properties, unauthorized land sales continued. Multiple FIRs in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh alleged forgery, cheating, and illegal land transfers by competing groups claiming authority over the organization. Disputes over the society’s management were also evident in the Registrar of Societies’ records, which displayed two distinct lists of office bearers.
