Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule expressed deep sorrow over the building collapse incident at the Moshi garbage depot in Pune, calling it a tragic event that highlights the failure of the state government and administration. The collapse, which occurred on Wednesday, trapped 23 individuals under a massive mound of garbage.
The death toll from the collapse has risen to eight, with seven more bodies recovered from the damaged administrative building. Sule emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the incident, demanding strict action against those responsible for the negligence that led to the tragedy. She also stressed the importance of addressing issues like solid waste management in cities to prevent such incidents in the future.
Visiting the injured workers at Sainath Hospital, Sule listened to their accounts of the incident and ensured they received proper medical care. She called for appropriate compensation for the victims’ families and injured workers, urging the government to take swift action against the guilty parties. Sule underscored the necessity of implementing effective waste management policies in urban areas to avert similar disasters.
Rescue teams are still searching for an individual believed to be buried under the debris, using specialized equipment and NDRF dog squads. Sule paid tribute to the deceased workers and extended her condolences to their families, emphasizing the importance of stringent waste management systems to prevent future tragedies.
