NCP Working President Supriya Sule expressed gratitude to Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders for backing Sharad Pawar in the upcoming Rajya Sabha election in Maharashtra. The polling is set for March 16, with the nomination deadline on March 5. Sule thanked Sonia Gandhi, Uddhav Thackeray, Rahul Gandhi, and others for supporting Pawar’s candidacy.
After the press conference led by state Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal endorsing Sharad Pawar, Sule publicly appreciated the support. The Shiv Sena (UBT) was notably absent from the event, but MP Sanjay Raut confirmed the party’s unity in endorsing Pawar as the MVA’s candidate for the Rajya Sabha.
Both Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) had earlier claimed the Rajya Sabha seat, leaving the final decision to the party high command. The dispute escalated when Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray argued for the seat allocation based on the party’s MLA count.
Sharad Pawar is expected to secure victory in the election due to the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s strength in the state Assembly. The opposition alliance holds 46 MLAs, ensuring the win of one seat, while the ruling Mahayuti alliance is likely to secure six seats with the support of smaller parties and independents.
