After Ahmedabad, Surat in Gujarat is gearing up for its Metro rail services with a recent trial run covering an 8.5-kilometre route connecting Dream City and Althan Tenament. The Surat Metro network’s construction is progressing rapidly and is expected to be open to the public soon.
The Surat Metro Project Director, Anand Singh Bisht, highlighted that the ‘Diamond Corridor’ (Corridor I) links Dream City to Sarthana, spanning 21.6 kilometers with both elevated and underground sections. Corridor II, known as the ‘Textile Corridor,’ connects Bhesan to Saroli, covering 18.7 kilometers entirely elevated with 18 stations.
A 500-hour trial run is currently assessing the Metro train’s speed, braking system, and technical aspects between Dream City and Althan Tenament. The upcoming Metro service will directly benefit the Surat Diamond Bourse, enhancing transportation for artisans and traders commuting from various areas.
The Metro’s launch is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in Surat, providing a faster, safer, and eco-friendly travel option for daily commuters. Residents express excitement and pride over the city’s Metro development, anticipating improved transportation and enhanced connectivity.
