Authorities in Surat have readied a sustainable and plastic-free event space at the Indoor Stadium for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit on World Environment Day. The venue showcases eco-friendly practices with recycled materials, waste-based art installations, and community-created environmental artwork. The event aligns with Mission LiFE principles, emphasizing sustainable living and environmentally conscious behavior.
The organizers have eschewed plastic and thermocol decorations, opting instead for bamboo installations, sculptures from discarded materials, and eco-friendly rangolis. Surat’s recent cleanliness campaigns are also highlighted through this effort. Notably, the main stage backdrop is entirely made from recycled fabric by local artists and students of the city’s Fine Arts College.
Visitors to the program will be greeted by hand-painted hoardings and repurposed material artworks, fostering public participation with over 5,000 citizen-created environmental conservation pieces. The initiative symbolizes a collective effort involving residents, educational institutions, and creative professionals. The design theme emphasizes renewable energy, water conservation, green mobility, and sustainable development.
The decorations aim not only to enhance the venue aesthetically but also to raise awareness about environmental protection among attendees. This eco-friendly event precedes PM Modi’s broader visit to Surat on June 5, where he will inspect Larsen & Toubro’s Hazira facility and address a public gathering at the Indoor Stadium. The visit includes inaugurating and laying foundation stones for development projects worth approximately Rs 18,777 crore for Surat and south Gujarat.
The Prime Minister’s visit to Surat and Daman is part of a comprehensive program encompassing development initiatives and public engagements. As preparations conclude at the Indoor Stadium, the focus extends beyond Modi’s address to showcase environmentally sustainable event management on World Environment Day.
