Before assuming office, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari pledged support for BJP workers who died in post-election violence in 2021. Now, Adhikari has declared that a member from each of the 315 families of deceased party workers will receive job appointment letters by the end of June. Additionally, a one-time financial aid of Rs 5 lakh will be granted from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
During a recent meeting at the New Town Convention Centre, Adhikari made this significant announcement. The BJP had vigorously campaigned to secure power in West Bengal during the 2021 Assembly elections. Despite efforts by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who aimed to win 200 seats, the BJP fell short of its target.
Rather than achieving the 200-seat milestone, the BJP couldn’t even surpass 80 seats. The Trinamool Congress emerged victorious with a clear majority. Following their win, allegations surfaced that Trinamool Congress workers had attacked BJP workers, resulting in the deaths of 321 individuals. Legal proceedings regarding these incidents have seen limited progress.
In the subsequent 2026 Assembly elections, the BJP secured an outright majority in West Bengal. This change in power has raised hopes for justice among the families of the victims. Adhikari, during the election campaign, had assured to provide government jobs to the families of deceased party workers and support those who were targeted.
The families of the deceased found a ray of hope in this promise, although concerns lingered about the job timeline. Now, Adhikari’s recent announcement of issuing job appointment letters and offering a one-time financial aid of Rs 5 lakh has brought solace to these families.
