Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran sparked discussions in Tamil Nadu by proposing the possibility of a future alliance between the DMK and the AIADMK. Dhinakaran emphasized that political dynamics can shift based on circumstances rather than strict ideologies.
Dhinakaran’s comments were in response to Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) President Thol Thirumavalavan’s suggestion that the DMK and the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) should unite to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He questioned the selective approach to political alliances, highlighting that parties often collaborate with former rivals for broader political goals.
The AMMK Chief argued against dismissing the idea of a DMK-AIADMK understanding, citing examples of parties forming alliances with past opponents to achieve governance. Dhinakaran pointed out that the evolving political landscape in Tamil Nadu should be considered when discussing potential alliances between major parties.
Drawing on historical instances, Dhinakaran recalled the cooperation between former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai and statesman C. Rajagopalachari, despite differing ideologies. He stressed that electoral politics are influenced by practical needs and public mandates, suggesting that alliances are shaped by changing circumstances rather than fixed loyalties.
