Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) President G.K. Vasan praised former Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai for initiating a new political venture and emphasized the need for stronger actions to address the escalating law and order issues in the state. Vasan, speaking in Erode, also commended Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa for his remarkable victory at the Norway Chess Tournament, hailing it as a moment of national pride.
Highlighting the persistent law and order challenges in Tamil Nadu post the change in government, Vasan expressed concerns over the prevailing incidents of crime including murder, robbery, theft, and crimes against women across various regions. He urged the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led state administration to take decisive measures against wrongdoers, stressing the importance of strict actions and deterrent punishments.
Vasan criticized the current government for failing to address the grievances of farmers, particularly regarding the incomplete waiver of agricultural loans. He underscored the necessity for a governance approach that prioritizes agriculture and the well-being of farmers in Tamil Nadu. Additionally, he weighed in on the Mekedatu dam dispute, condemning Karnataka’s persistence in the project and calling out the inconsistent stances adopted by political parties on the matter.
Demanding transparency from the state authorities concerning the alleged disappearance of a hard disk from a Tamil Nadu Electricity Board office, Vasan raised doubts and sought clarifications on the incident. Addressing the FIR lodged against Minister K.N. Nehru, he emphasized the importance of upholding the law without any external influence. Vasan stressed the significance of the government’s accountability towards voters, emphasizing the need for public trust through effective governance.
Announcing an upcoming meeting in Chennai on June 14 to strengthen the TMC organization, Vasan shared plans for discussions on expanding and solidifying the party’s presence in Tamil Nadu. The meeting will involve party leaders, including State General Secretary Yuvaraj, State Vice-President Vidyal Sekhar, State Executive Committee member S.T. Chandrasekhar, and District President Vijayakumar, to strategize on enhancing the party’s reach.
