Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagenthran criticized the Vijay government for overcrowding in the emergency ward of Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai. Reports indicated that three patients were forced to share a single bed due to space constraints. Nagenthran highlighted serious administrative lapses at the premier hospital, questioning the government’s commitment to public healthcare.
The overcrowding issue was reportedly caused by ongoing renovation works at the hospital, leading to patients from various sections being consolidated in one block. Nagenthran criticized the Health Department for failing to make adequate alternative arrangements before starting the renovation. He compared the situation to the State Secretariat, questioning whether ministers would be confined to a single room during renovations.
Nagenthran emphasized the need for proper planning and consideration for patients in public hospitals, urging the government to provide spacious and well-ventilated beds. He accused the government of neglecting the basic requirements of patient care and treating those dependent on government hospitals as second-class citizens. The BJP leader called for immediate action to improve facilities at Stanley Government Hospital, including increased bed capacity, clean toilets, safe drinking water, and essential infrastructure.
The BJP leader criticized the current administration for what he perceived as a lack of attention to public healthcare institutions, similar to the previous government’s alleged neglect. Nagenthran called on CM Vijay and Health Minister Arun Raj to intervene promptly and ensure dignified treatment for patients in State-run healthcare facilities. The Tamil Nadu government has not yet responded to Nagenthran’s concerns.
