Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing deep concern over the proposal to divest a further stake in Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) India Ltd. Vijay emphasized the strategic importance of NLC as a national asset closely tied to the State’s interests.
In his letter, Vijay highlighted the significant role NLC plays in Tamil Nadu’s industrial and economic landscape. He underscored the company’s historical connection with the State, citing its headquarters in Neyveli and key operational facilities located there.
Vijay argued that Tamil Nadu has a vested interest in NLC’s future, given the State’s contributions to the company’s growth and development over the years. He cautioned against any reduction in the Government of India’s ownership stake, citing potential implications for energy security and infrastructure.
The Chief Minister urged PM Modi to reconsider the proposed disinvestment, emphasizing the need to prioritize the long-term interests of Tamil Nadu and the nation. He called for a reassessment of the decision in light of the State government’s concerns and objections.
