Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay recently provided compassionate appointment letters to families who lost their loved ones in the Karur stampede, calling it an enduring sorrow. The stampede occurred on September 27 last year during a political rally, resulting in the tragic loss of 41 lives. A CBI investigation into the incident is ongoing.
In response to the tragedy, the Tamil Nadu government offered Rs 10 lakh ex gratia to each affected family, with an additional Rs 20 lakh provided by the TVK party. As part of rehabilitation efforts, CM Vijay distributed job orders to one member from each of the 32 affected families, tailored to their educational qualifications.
During the distribution event at the Atlas Arena, the Chief Minister handed out appointment orders, coinciding with a court hearing challenging the decision to offer permanent government jobs to the victims’ families. The court ruled in favor of temporary appointments for the beneficiaries for the time being.
Expressing his emotional connection to the incident, CM Vijay acknowledged the deep impact of the tragedy on him personally. He emphasized his commitment to preventing such incidents in the future and criticized the opposition for their alleged lack of transparency. The program concluded with the distribution of job orders, aiming to provide financial security to the affected families.
