Parts of Tamil Nadu are set to experience heavy rain in the next three days, but the State is currently enduring a severe heatwave. The India Meteorological Department reports soaring temperatures across various districts, with some areas recording over 37.8 degrees Celsius.
The Regional Meteorological Centre predicts significant rainfall in Tamil Nadu soon, offering relief from the ongoing heatwave. Despite the expected rain, high temperatures and humidity levels are likely to persist, especially in coastal and interior districts, creating uncomfortable weather conditions.
Temperatures in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have surpassed 37.8 degrees Celsius in at least 12 locations, emphasizing the intensity of the heatwave. Vellore recorded the highest temperature at 42.2 degrees Celsius, with other major centers like Tiruchirappalli, Chennai, and Madurai Airport touching 40 degrees Celsius.
The State is experiencing scorching temperatures, with Madurai city, Tirupattur, and Dharmapuri reaching around 39.4 degrees Celsius. Erode, Karur, Paramathi, and Tiruttani are hovering near 38.9 degrees Celsius, while Nagapattinam and Puducherry reported 38.3 and 37.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The India Meteorological Department warns that the combination of high temperatures and humidity could lead to heat stress and discomfort in various areas, particularly during peak daytime hours. Coastal regions like Chennai may feel even hotter due to moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal, with temperatures expected to reach around 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
Residents are advised to avoid prolonged sun exposure, stay hydrated, and take precautions against heat-related illnesses. While the upcoming rainfall might slightly lower temperatures in some areas, meteorologists caution that it may not be adequate to counter the overall warming trend as summer progresses.
