The Tamil Nadu government has finalized admissions for 24,868 students for the upcoming academic year under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. This number is expected to rise further as parents complete the admission process by the end of the week. A total of 2,51,537 applications were received for the 82,888 available seats in 7,740 private schools across the state, as per the Directorate of Matriculation Schools.
Admissions are currently ongoing in various districts, with more confirmations anticipated, especially from rural and remote areas. Officials highlight that parents in these regions might need additional time to fulfill documentation and school requirements. The government official mentioned that 24,868 seats have been confirmed based on parental acceptance as of Tuesday afternoon, with an expectation of further increases by the weekend.
The implementation of RTE admissions in Tamil Nadu shows steady progress, with 63,991 seats filled in the previous academic year. Additionally, the state government is enhancing oversight of fee collection practices in private schools. The Directorate of Matriculation Schools has instructed education authorities to gather fee structure details from all private educational institutions in the state, aligning with the Tamil Nadu Fee Determination Committee’s directives.
