The Tamil Nadu government has undertaken a significant reshuffle of senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, appointing them to key intelligence, CID, and Special Branch roles across the state. The orders, signed by Additional Chief Secretary K. Manivasan from the Home (SC) Department, are effective immediately. Dr G. Dharmarajan, previously Deputy Inspector General of Police in Vellore Range, now assumes the role of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Intelligence (Security) in Chennai.
Pakerla Cephas Kalyan, the former Joint Commissioner of Police for Law and Order in South Zone, Greater Chennai Police, has been reassigned as DIG, Intelligence, Internal Security in Chennai. Meanwhile, P. Saravanan, who held the position of DIG in Tirunelveli Range, now serves as DIG, CID Intelligence in Chennai.
The reshuffle extends to various departments including the Crime Branch CID, Special Branch CID, and Organised Crime Intelligence Unit. Garad Karun Uddhavrao, Superintendent of Police in Tiruvallur district, has been designated as Superintendent of Police for the Organised Crime Intelligence Unit in Chennai. Additionally, A. Myilvaganan from Tenkasi district is now Superintendent of Police-I, Special Branch CID in Chennai, with Dr C. Madhan from Thoothukudi district taking on the role of Superintendent of Police-I, Security Branch CID in Chennai.
Further changes involve K. Shanmugam, who moves from SP of ‘Q’ Branch CID to Superintendent of Police-II, Special Branch CID in Chennai, and G.S. Madhavan, SP of Metro Zone, Crime Branch CID, now appointed as Superintendent of Police-II, Security Branch CID in Chennai. Notably, N. Silambarasan, Superintendent of Police and Assistant Inspector General of Police for Law and Order in Chennai, has been reassigned as Superintendent of Police for the Special Division in the Special Branch CID in Chennai.
This reshuffle reflects the state government’s commitment to enhancing intelligence coordination, internal security monitoring, and specialized investigative units in Tamil Nadu. The immediate effect of these transfers and postings underscores the government’s focus on optimizing policing operations and efficiency within critical security and intelligence divisions.
