Tamil Nadu Revenue Minister Sengottaiyan confirmed that local body elections in the state will be held before the legal deadline next April. He emphasized the government’s commitment to preventing irregularities in public projects and municipal administration. The Minister, speaking in Coimbatore, highlighted the government’s focus on transparency and thorough decision-making processes.
His statements come in response to concerns regarding delays in civic projects and the upcoming local body elections. Specifically mentioning the Race Course Road project in Coimbatore, Sengottaiyan mentioned that the tender process was paused due to issues related to additional fund approvals. He reiterated the government’s stance on adhering to established procedures without any deviations.
Sengottaiyan underscored the importance of accurate execution of public projects under Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s leadership. He assured that all administrative decisions were made meticulously and in compliance with the law. Regarding the upcoming local body elections, he mentioned that there was no rush as the current term extends until next April, emphasizing that the government would proceed accordingly within the stipulated timeline.
The Minister clarified that civic tenders could not be revoked without valid reasons, emphasizing that all government actions were based on legal and administrative considerations rather than political motives. In the transport sector, Sengottaiyan appreciated private omnibus operators for agreeing to operate at government-approved fares, signaling a positive shift from previous operational challenges. He also highlighted collaborative efforts between Tamil Nadu and Kerala to enhance anti-drug enforcement and combat narcotics trafficking across state borders through joint measures.
