Tamil Nadu’s Singappen Special Task Force has received backlash following a viral video of a female police officer in Tirupur, where she suggested that women should “correct their mistakes” for their safety. The officer’s remarks sparked online criticism, with many questioning the focus on women rather than addressing crimes against them.
Critics expressed concerns that the force’s message seemed to blame victims instead of holding perpetrators accountable. Social media users labeled the comments as moral policing and highlighted the need for better gender-sensitisation training for task force personnel.
The Singappen Special Task Force, launched by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on June 9, aims to enhance women’s safety and combat crimes against women in Tamil Nadu. The women-only patrol force operates through 70 field units and has been allocated Rs 354.67 crore, with plans for further expansion.
