Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, has surpassed two crore members, as confirmed by party sources. This achievement highlights the rapid growth of the organization within just over two years since its inception.
Party supporters and officials celebrated this milestone on social media, emphasizing the increasing popularity of TVK among the people of Tamil Nadu. The milestone comes shortly after the party secured its first government in the state following a significant win in the 2026 Assembly elections.
Launched by actor-turned-politician Vijay in February 2024, TVK swiftly expanded its organizational footprint across Tamil Nadu through an intensive membership campaign and grassroots mobilization efforts. The party’s strategic focus included bolstering its presence at the booth level and conducting enrollment drives at the district level, along with engaging in youth outreach programs and public interaction initiatives to build a broad support base.
As the membership campaign gained momentum leading up to the Assembly elections, numerous volunteers and local organizers were involved in extending the party’s influence in both urban and rural areas. TVK leaders consistently positioned the party as a people-centric movement that aimed to offer an alternative to the traditional political entities in the state.
The rapid organizational expansion translated into electoral triumph during the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. In its debut Assembly election, TVK emerged as the largest political entity in the state, clinching 108 seats and securing a vote share of 34.92 percent. This outcome marked a significant shift in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, with the Vijay-led party defeating both the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), ending the long-standing dominance of the two major Dravidian parties.
After the victory, Vijay took office as Chief Minister on May 10, leading a coalition government with support from allied parties. Party officials highlighted that surpassing the two-crore membership mark underscores the robust grassroots network of TVK and the enthusiasm surrounding its emergence as a governing entity. They emphasized that the expanding membership base would further fortify the party’s organizational structure and enhance public engagement throughout Tamil Nadu, aiming to solidify its position in the state’s political arena.
