Tech Mahindra Chairman Anand Mahindra addressed shareholders at the company’s annual general meeting, stating that artificial intelligence (AI) will not undermine India’s IT services industry. He emphasized that as enterprises increasingly adopt AI at scale, the sector’s role will evolve and become more significant. Mahindra highlighted that AI should be seen as a catalyst for the industry’s growth rather than a threat to jobs.
Mahindra pointed out that despite AI reshaping the industry, the importance of IT services will not diminish. He stressed that the industry’s role will become critical as businesses seek trusted partners to securely and effectively deploy AI. According to Mahindra, AI has transitioned from a peripheral productivity tool to a central element in how enterprises operate, serve customers, manage risk, and make decisions.
Mahindra explained that while AI presents vast opportunities, its implementation at an enterprise scale is complex due to legacy systems, fragmented data, regulations, and technology debt. He highlighted that Tech Mahindra plays a vital role in assisting organizations to integrate, govern, and customize AI securely. Drawing an analogy to a smartphone, Mahindra emphasized that the true value of AI lies in the applications, connectivity, and enterprise solutions built around it.
Mahindra further emphasized that an enterprise’s competitive advantage will increasingly stem from its proprietary data, business workflows, domain expertise, and institutional knowledge. He stated that Tech Mahindra aims to help clients enhance this advantage through AI-powered platforms, workflows, and solutions.
