Telangana reached a historic peak power demand of 18,139 MW, the highest ever in the state. This milestone was achieved without any interruptions at 11:01 a.m. on Tuesday. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka praised the state’s power utilities for efficiently managing the unprecedented demand and ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
Despite its smaller size, Telangana now matches or exceeds the peak loads of larger states like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The state’s economic growth and operational efficiency have been highlighted through this achievement. Telangana’s peak demand surpasses that of industrial states such as Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh, showcasing its high electricity consumption density.
The rapid growth in sectors like IT, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and irrigation has been instrumental in driving the increase in electricity demand in Telangana. The state has recorded a peak demand of 17,162 MW on March 20, 2025, demonstrating its readiness to meet upcoming summer peak requirements. Telangana’s power sector is well-prepared with a robust grid system, forward-looking strategy, and coordinated operations, setting a benchmark for other states.
