Telangana Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, instructed the Director General of Police, C.V. Anand, to launch an immediate investigation into a case under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act involving Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay’s son, Bandi Bhagirath.
The Chief Minister raised concerns about the delay in action despite the complaint being filed on May 8 at Pet Basheerabad Police Station. In response, the DGP was directed to form special teams for a thorough investigation into the alleged sexual assault on a minor girl by Bandi Bhagirath.
Following the Chief Minister’s directive, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was reportedly set up by the police chief to look into the case. The DGP briefed the Chief Minister on the case details, citing the police force’s engagement in security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Hyderabad.
The Telangana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TSCPCR) established a special Bench to address the case, as per the Chief Minister’s instructions. TGSCPCR Chairperson, Kothakota Seetha Dayakar Reddy, gathered information from the City Police Commissioner and formed a special Bench to investigate the matter.
The actions taken by TSCPCR and the Chief Minister’s directives to the DGP came amidst ongoing protests by the Opposition Bharath Rashtra Samithi (BRS) demanding action against Bandi Sanjay’s son, who faces allegations of sexual assault under the POCSO Act.
