Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi to discuss the development of cargo, MRO, and hangar facilities at Adilabad’s Indian Air Force airport and Civil Aviation terminal. Reddy emphasized Adilabad’s suitability for airlines to establish hangars, especially given recent Middle East developments, and sought airport upgrades to accommodate this.
The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed Reddy’s commitment to supporting the expansion of the Indian Air Force airport in Adilabad. He assured full cooperation, particularly in land acquisition and utility relocation, highlighting the project’s importance for national defense.
Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu had previously announced plans for a defense airport in Adilabad, including provisions for civil operations. While the defense sector already has a 360-acre airstrip in Adilabad, an additional 450 acres are needed for the new airport, which will feature a runway capable of handling Airbus A320 aircraft.
Reddy also urged the Defence Minister to fast-track approval for a key DRDO/DRDL project near Devarakadra in Mahabubnagar district. He expressed gratitude for the transfer of Defence Ministry lands for the Gandhi Sarovar project, a flagship initiative in Hyderabad.
