Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has proposed the establishment of a task force for six major cities in India, each receiving an investment of Rs 1 lakh crore to elevate them to global standards. These cities include New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, which are vital economic hubs but currently lag behind other global cities. Reddy emphasized that these cities, home to 10% of India’s population and contributing a quarter of its GDP, require development to global benchmarks for enhanced revenue, job creation, and India’s overall progress.
At the 11th governing council meeting of NITI Aayog in New Delhi, the Chief Minister urged the formation of an M6 Cities Task Force to expedite the transformation of these cities. He highlighted the significance of these cities as crucial economic drivers and emphasized the need for rapid and focused development initiatives to elevate them to global standards.
Reddy also sought support from the central government for various infrastructure projects in Hyderabad, including the development of the Regional Ring Road to facilitate the city’s growth, the construction of a 12-lane expressway to Bandar Port for enhanced connectivity, and the approval for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II to promote sustainable mobility. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of initiatives like Musi River Rejuvenation and the Bharat Future City project for creating a sustainable and environmentally friendly urban landscape in Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister underscored the alignment of Telangana with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India by 2047 under the Viksit Bharat initiative. He emphasized the need for world-class city infrastructure, particularly in the education sector, to attract global talent and industry to the state. Reddy highlighted the state’s efforts to collaborate with international educational institutions and create knowledge clusters to foster innovation and growth.
