Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed gratitude to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for allowing work on the Gandhi Sarovar Project at Bapu Ghat, Hyderabad. The project aims to rejuvenate the Musi River and transform its riverfront into a valuable asset for the public. The Ministry of Defence granted permission to upgrade and develop Bapu Ghat into the Gandhi Sarovar project on defence land measuring 83.814 acres in Artillery Centre Golconda.
The Defence Ministry’s approval is a significant step towards the comprehensive rejuvenation of the Musi River and the enhancement of its ecological and cultural value. The project, part of the Musi River Rejuvenation initiative, envisions Bapu Ghat as a world-class educational, cultural, spiritual, and environmental landmark inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had discussions with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh regarding the project, emphasizing its importance for ecological restoration and sustainable development.
The Gandhi Sarovar Project holds national significance as it commemorates the historic immersion of Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes at the confluence of the Esa and Musi rivers in 1948. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had requested the transfer of 98.20 acres of defence land for the project, highlighting its integral role in the state government’s Musi River Rejuvenation Project. The Ministry of Defence’s support and cooperation are crucial for the successful implementation of this transformative initiative.
