A high-level committee in Telangana is working to recognize “Telangana Udyamakarulu” (statehood movement activists) in four categories. Chaired by government advisor K. Keshava Rao, the committee’s first meeting included Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and other members. Priority will be given to those who lost their lives or were injured during the movement, while others imprisoned or involved legally will also be acknowledged. The committee plans to identify grassroots activists from different states who participated in the movement.
The committee aims to identify activists through newspaper references and proposals from civil society members. Consultations with activists from past movements are planned to gather suggestions. Established just two days ago, the committee will set strict criteria to compile a database for welfare support. It emphasizes a non-partisan selection process, independent of political affiliations, to honor the Telangana movement’s legacy. The committee expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for forming the dedicated government committee.
The committee will be based at the ‘Amaraveerula Jyothi’ in Hyderabad and will hold an all-party meeting to gather suggestions on recognizing martyrs. Proposals will be sought from various groups, including the Telangana Movement Activists’ Joint Action Committee and other organizations. Extensive public consultations will be conducted across districts to gather opinions and ensure a comprehensive recognition process.
