The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has initiated an inquiry into the alleged food poisoning incident at a residential school in Nagarkurnool district. Following breakfast, 27 students at the tribal welfare Gurukul in Mannanur village fell ill, prompting the Commission to request a detailed report from the District Collector, Nagarkurnool.
The Commission is seeking information on the circumstances surrounding the incident, the health status of the affected students, investigation outcomes, food and water sample analysis, actions taken against any responsible parties, and measures implemented to prevent future occurrences. The matter has been scheduled for a report submission on August 11.
The incident occurred during breakfast at the Primitive Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) Boys Gurukul, where students were served khichdi and tamarind chutney. Some students began vomiting during the school prayer, while others complained of stomach pain. The affected students were promptly transferred to a local government hospital for treatment.
Leaders and activists from the United Students Federation of India (USFI) staged a protest outside Praja Bhavan in Hyderabad, demanding swift resolution of student-related issues. They called for the immediate disbursement of pending scholarships and the addressing of other student concerns. The protestors accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of disregarding student problems and urged the government to release funds for fee reimbursement and regulate private school fees.
