Telangana’s Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries, Vakiti Srihari, inaugurated a freshwater fish export center in Koheda, Rangareddy district. This initiative aims to boost fishermen’s earnings, offer stable employment, and open doors to global markets. The center, funded 60% by the central government and 40% by the state, is a pioneering inland establishment in the country.
The export facility, costing around Rs 47 crore, will feature modern amenities like cold storage, purification units, packaging centers, and a training facility. It will link local fish to both domestic and international markets, ensuring better prices for fishermen. This move is expected to elevate Telangana’s fish industry to global prominence, benefiting around 2,000 traders and creating direct and indirect job opportunities for about 5,000 individuals.
Telangana, a frontrunner in freshwater fish production in India, aims to leverage this project to further strengthen its rural economy and provide youth with new job prospects. Minister Srihari emphasized the government’s commitment to facilitating a global market for all Telangana-produced fish, emphasizing economic empowerment for fishing communities. The event saw the presence of various dignitaries, including Bhuvanagiri MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy and Fisheries Director Nikhil.
