The Telangana Prisons and Correctional Services Department freed 91 life convicts on Telangana Formation Day. These convicts, including 85 men and 6 women, received special remission from the state government. The department is assisting their reintegration by offering employment and rehabilitation support.
Director General Soumya Mishra revealed that 38 of the released individuals have been given jobs at fuel outlets run by the department. The aim is to help them secure immediate livelihoods and smoothly transition back into society. The remaining 53 convicts have shown interest in self-employment, agriculture, family businesses, and other professions.
In a bid to empower women, four female convicts were provided with sewing machines for self-employment under a scheme funded by the Prison Development Fund. Mishra emphasized that this initiative signifies a fresh start marked by responsibility and hope for the released prisoners. The focus is on enabling positive transformation and reform among the convicts.
Mishra highlighted the department’s efforts to turn prisons into centers for reform and skill development. She stressed the importance of continued support post-release to ensure successful reintegration into society. The department aims to provide opportunities for reform and positive change beyond mere punishment.
