Telugu New Year ‘Ugadi’ was celebrated with joy in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with people thronging temples for special prayers and festivities. The day saw traditional rituals like decorating homes with mango leaves, enjoying festive food, and listening to the ‘panchangnam’ for the New Year. Named “Sri Parabhava Nama” this year, Ugadi was observed with enthusiasm in both states.
Special functions were organized where religious almanacks were read out, and cultural events, poetry recitations, and author recognitions took place. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy graced the official event in Hyderabad, while Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu participated in the celebrations in Vijayawada. Both leaders, along with others, tasted the traditional ‘Ugadi Pacchadi’, symbolizing life’s diverse flavors.
Cultural programs and award ceremonies marked the celebrations, with Chief Minister Naidu presenting Kalaratna and Ugadi awards to deserving individuals. Political parties like TDP and YSRCP also held Ugadi festivities at their respective offices, with leaders exchanging greetings and participating in traditional rituals. Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders were also part of the Ugadi celebrations in Hyderabad and Telangana.
