Three drug peddlers were apprehended in separate incidents in Sopore district, Jammu and Kashmir. The police seized contraband substances during the arrests. In the first case, a suspicious individual was caught with a ‘charas-like’ substance at a checkpoint on the Nathipora–Tujjer link road.
A resident of Sheikhpora Tujjer, identified as Umar Mohammad, was found in possession of the contraband. An FIR was registered against him under the NDPS Act. In another incident, two individuals tried to evade a checkpoint at Poultry Crossing, Dangerpora Road, but were tactfully apprehended by the police.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified efforts against drug trafficking, hawala money rackets, and other illegal financial activities. These operations aim to disrupt the financial networks that support terrorism in the region. Suspects involved in such activities are detained under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, and their properties linked to illicit funds are seized through legal procedures.
Operations against drug smuggling are conducted in conjunction with anti-terrorist activities to dismantle the support structures of terrorism. The focus is not only on armed terrorists but also on their collaborators and supporters, including over ground workers and sympathizers.
