A Special NDPS Court in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, has sentenced three drug traffickers to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.50 lakh each for their involvement in interstate Ganja (Cannabis) activities. The convicts, Arun Kumar Sharma, Ranjit Sharma, and Ganga Choudhary, residents of Bihar, were arrested by the NCB Bhopal Zonal Unit in 2000 for trafficking over 870 kg of Ganja from Odisha to Madhya Pradesh via Chhattisgarh.
The trio was apprehended along with the seizure of 879.530 kg of Ganja, which exceeded the commercial quantity by 44 times. The case, dating back to November 17, 2020, originated from a truck interception at the Shaliwada Toll Plaza in Jabalpur district. The investigation revealed that the Ganja was sourced from Odisha and was intended for Maihar, Madhya Pradesh.
The convicts were found guilty under various sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, and the seized drug and vehicle were disposed of as per the prescribed procedure. The NCB emphasized its dedication to achieving a “Drug Free India” through rigorous investigation and prosecution. This marks the second conviction secured by the unit this year, highlighting the Bureau’s ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and protect society.
