Three individuals sustained minor injuries in a Ukrainian drone strike on St. Petersburg, as disclosed by the city’s Governor Alexander Beglov. The injured individuals received treatment for their minor wounds and have been released from the hospital.
Governor Beglov further stated that 86 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) had been downed by Saturday morning, according to the Governor of the Leningrad region surrounding St. Petersburg, as reported by Xinhua news agency. This incident represents the second significant drone attack on St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region during this year’s St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which concludes on Saturday.
In a separate incident, a Ukrainian drone attack ignited a fire at an oil depot in Ust-Labinsk in Russia’s Krasnodar region. Sixty residents from nearby residences were evacuated, with no casualties reported, as confirmed by the regional operational headquarters. The Russian Defence Ministry announced that 376 Ukrainian UAVs were intercepted and destroyed by air defence systems overnight in various regions.
The morning of June 6 saw St. Petersburg under a large-scale assault by military unmanned aerial vehicles, as per the Governor’s statement. Urging residents to remain indoors, the Governor emphasized the operation of air defence systems in response to the attack. Reports from residents of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region indicated hearing powerful sonic impacts resembling explosions since early Saturday morning.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposal for a meeting to resolve the conflict in Ukraine did not persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin, who currently ruled out a face-to-face meeting with the Kyiv leader. Putin expressed his reluctance during the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, citing a lack of justification for the meeting as hoped for by Zelensky in a recent open letter, as reported by the Adnkronos news agency.
