Three men from Uttarakhand have been apprehended for their involvement in a cyber scam where a Surat resident was defrauded of over Rs 1.63 crore through a bogus gold mining investment plan. The accused are accused of providing bank accounts to channel the illicit proceeds of the crime, as per the Surat City Cyber Crime Cell.

The fraudulent activity occurred between December 10, 2024, and April 25, 2025. The victim was lured into investing in a purported scheme named GRGC (Gold Rush Global Capital) through a Facebook profile and WhatsApp handle. The fraudsters promised lucrative daily and monthly returns in the guise of “Gold Mining Trading.”

The suspects managed to gain the victim’s trust by fabricating profits on a fake trading application and assuring the safety of the invested funds. However, the victim never received any refunds despite repeated promises. The complainant eventually reported the incident to the National Cyber Crime Helpline, leading to the arrest of the perpetrators in Kashipur, Uttarakhand.

A comprehensive investigation by the Cyber Crime Police Station resulted in the registration of an FIR under relevant sections of the law. The arrested individuals, including Mohammad Izhar, Mohammad Sumair, and Mohammad Uvesh, were found to have facilitated the fraudulent transactions through various bank accounts.
