In a daring jailbreak, three undertrial prisoners accused of serious crimes, including rape and murder, escaped from the Khachrod sub-jail near Nagda in Ujjain district. The escapees, identified as Narayan, Gopal, and Govind, were facing charges in rape and murder cases. The trio executed a well-planned escape by obtaining the key to the women’s ward and using a ladder to scale the jail’s boundary wall.
The breakout went unnoticed until the routine prisoner headcount, triggering a massive manhunt by the police. Authorities swiftly launched an intensive search operation, deploying police teams across the region and establishing checkpoints. Photographs of the fugitives have been widely circulated on social media to aid in their quick apprehension.
Jail officials are closely coordinating with the police in the search for the undertrials. The incident has raised concerns about jail security protocols, particularly in sub-jails facing resource constraints. Possible lapses in supervision and internal checks have been highlighted following the escape.
