In a tragic incident near Ujjain city, three-year-old Bhagirath Dewasi lost his life after falling into an open borehole in Jhalariya village. The toddler, from Rajasthan, fell into the shaft while playing near grazing sheep with his family. Despite a 22-hour rescue operation involving multiple agencies, the child could not be saved.
The boy’s family had recently arrived in the area, and the accident occurred when a sheep accidentally dislodged the covering of the borewell. Bhagirath, out of curiosity, approached the hole, removed the cover, and fell inside as his mother, who was nearby, could only watch helplessly. Efforts to rescue him involved sophisticated equipment and a large team of rescuers.
Rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force, worked tirelessly to save the child, monitoring him through a camera and supplying oxygen to sustain him. Despite the extensive efforts and use of heavy machinery, the operation ended tragically with Bhagirath being declared dead. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by uncovered boreholes, especially in rural areas.
