Panic gripped the Sarai area of Bhangaha village in Bettiah, West Champaran district, as a tiger attacked and killed a Nilgai in a sugarcane field. Villagers discovered the mutilated carcass of the blue bull with tiger paw prints around it, near the Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve.
The incident has instilled fear among locals, leading to a gathering of villagers at the site and subsequent alerting of forest officials. Forest personnel have cordoned off the area for public safety and are tracking the tiger’s movements to ensure the safety of residents.
Sunil Pathak, Ranger of the Manguraha forest area, confirmed the tiger sighting and attack, assuring continuous monitoring of the tiger and efforts to guide it back to the forest safely. The forest department has issued advisories to villagers, emphasizing precautions and intensifying joint patrolling with the local administration.
