Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Jahangir Khan was apprehended by Bengal police close to the India-Nepal border on Monday. Khan, also known as ‘Pushpa’ during the Bengal Assembly elections, faced arrest by the Special Task Force (STF) for various charges, including EVM tampering in the South 24 Parganas constituency.
After days of evading law enforcement agencies, Khan was finally captured as he attempted to flee across the Nepal border. The TMC leader is now in custody and will undergo questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities had been tracking Khan, who was wanted in multiple criminal cases, leading to his arrest near the border.
The arrest of Jahangir Khan signifies a significant breakthrough for investigators pursuing allegations of extortion and other criminal activities against the TMC strongman. Despite withdrawing from the electoral race in Falta, a crucial TMC stronghold, Khan’s past actions have drawn attention to issues of intimidation and violence in the region.
