Torrent Pharmaceuticals has initiated a voluntary recall of specific batches of Semalix injection disposable pens as a precautionary measure. This action follows the identification of a quality issue by manufacturing partner Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, necessitating technical evaluation. The recall specifically targets select batches of Semalix Injection 2 mg and 4 mg produced by Dr Reddy’s Laboratories.
Torrent has emphasized that this recall is a preventive step and assures that patients currently receiving treatment face no risk. The company reaffirmed its commitment to patient safety as its top priority and confirmed that other semaglutide products in its lineup remain unaffected. These include Semalix tablets in various strengths, Sembolic tablets, Semalix Injection 8 mg, and the Sembolic reusable injection.
Furthermore, Torrent has advised individuals with concerns about the impacted products to reach out for additional information. Meanwhile, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories disclosed that the commercial distribution of semaglutide would be delayed due to certain batches not meeting specifications. The issue was traced back to a problem with the active pharmaceutical ingredient used in the product.
Dr Reddy’s, headquartered in Hyderabad, is actively investigating the root cause of the problem and implementing necessary corrective actions to uphold product quality standards. The company has confirmed that commercial supplies will be halted until the issue is resolved. It was stressed that this matter does not compromise patient safety or impact the product’s regulatory filings globally.
Shares of Torrent Pharmaceuticals closed at Rs 4,896.65 on the BSE, registering a gain of Rs 29.20, or 0.6 percent.
