A tragic incident unfolded at the Bargi Dam reservoir in Jabalpur when a tourist boat capsized due to a sudden storm, resulting in the loss of four lives. The storm hit the boat carrying over 30 passengers near Khamariya Island, a popular spot on the Narmada River, leading to a chaotic situation.

Local authorities and preliminary police reports revealed that amidst heavy winds and turbulent weather, the boat succumbed to the rising waves, throwing numerous tourists into the reservoir. Despite swift rescue efforts by Bargi Police and the State Disaster Response Force, many passengers are still missing, with 18 individuals unaccounted for.

Anjul Ayank Mishra, the City Superintendent of Police for the Bargi zone, confirmed the recovery of four bodies from the water. While 15 people were rescued promptly, the search for the missing individuals continues. The incident has highlighted the challenges faced by rescue teams in adverse conditions.

Eyewitnesses described the chaos that ensued as the storm hit, causing the boat to overturn rapidly. The weather’s intensity seemed to have overwhelmed the boat’s stability, leading to the tragic capsizing. The Bargi Dam, known for water tourism, witnessed a distressing turn of events during the evening cruise.

Rescue operations persist despite logistical challenges posed by fading light and the vast reservoir. Divers are concentrating their search efforts around the sunken boat and the waters near Khamariya Island. Regional authorities have extended condolences to the affected families and are committed to locating the missing passengers.
