Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari is set to inspect the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway following a recent tragic bus-trailer collision in Rajasthan’s Dausa district that resulted in eight fatalities and 28 injuries. Gadkari will travel from Delhi to Kota-Ratlam via the expressway, passing through Dausa district around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, potentially visiting the accident site.
During the inspection, the Minister will assess the expressway’s condition, ongoing construction, safety protocols, and the Dara Tunnel in Mukundara Hills, Kota. The review will also encompass sections of the expressway in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. In preparation for Gadkari’s visit, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials and relevant departments are enhancing safety measures and facilities along the expressway.
The planned inspection comes in the wake of the fatal collision and fire incident in Dausa, which highlighted concerns regarding highway safety, traffic flow, and emergency response systems on the expressway. The collision, which occurred on July 1, involved a private sleeper bus colliding with a trailer truck, resulting in eight deaths and numerous injuries. The tragic event led to a fire that claimed six lives on the spot, with two others succumbing to severe head injuries later.
