The Trinamool Congress has taken legal action against the state Criminal Investigation Department’s actions at its party offices regarding the legislators’ signatures mismatch case. The party moved the Calcutta High Court to challenge the alleged actions by the CID. Senior party member Kalyan Banerjee highlighted that raids and search operations were carried out without the presence of key witnesses.
In the petition filed at the vacation court, Kalyan Banerjee emphasized that important party documents were scanned during the raids. The party also pointed out that the raids were conducted despite an upcoming hearing on a petition filed by Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee challenging CID summons.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya admitted the petition, and the matter is scheduled for a hearing on Thursday. Meanwhile, Abhishek Banerjee’s earlier petition challenging CID summons and seeking protection from coercive police action will also be heard on the same day by another single-judge bench.
CID conducted raids at party offices in Kalighat and Camac Street, where Abhishek Banerjee operated from. Abhishek Banerjee had evaded CID interrogation notices related to mismatches in legislators’ signatures on a crucial resolution in the West Bengal assembly.
