The police in Tamluk Municipality, West Bengal, arrested Trinamool Congress councillor Kanailal Das for alleged corruption and irregular activities. Das, a prominent figure in the region, was taken into custody after searches linked to him. A significant amount of school students’ clothing and tarpaulins were found during the searches.
Officials visited Das’s residence to question him about the recovered items, which he could not explain satisfactorily. Following the interrogation, he was detained and later arrested. Local residents consider Das influential in both social and political spheres, citing his ownership of nursing homes and his role in key decisions of the Trinamool Congress.
Das had also faced allegations related to an assault incident, though it is unclear if these are part of the charges against him. This arrest is part of ongoing actions against public representatives involved in corruption and criminal activities. Authorities are investigating the seized materials to uncover more details about Das’s activities.
