Two Trinamool Congress councillors in Kolkata stepped down from their roles at the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) recently. Sushanta Ghosh resigned as the chairman of borough number 12, while Arup Chakraborty resigned from the KMC’s accounts committee. They visited the KMC headquarters together, sparking speculation about their sudden appearance.
Sushanta and Arup clarified that they resigned from their KMC positions but remain Trinamool councillors. Sushanta, a councillor of ward number 108, and Arup, a councillor of ward number 98, emphasized that their resignation was from specific KMC roles only. Addressing the media, Arup emphasized the importance of respecting the people’s verdict following the Assembly poll results.
Expressing concerns for party workers’ safety, Arup questioned the absence of long-term benefiting ministers. Sushanta echoed similar sentiments, mentioning his willingness to resign as a councillor if demanded by the public. Notably, Sushanta had faced an attempted shooting incident last year, leading to arrests but raising questions about the investigation’s direction.
Debalina Biswas, councillor of Ward No. 74, had also resigned as the chairperson of borough number 9 recently. Her decision was reportedly influenced by the Trinamool party’s performance in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency.
